Description of the 5 days dog sledding RAID, as a rough guide:
All along your raid, you will learn how to take care of your dogs.
Your will install their harness, put them on the draught line just like a real musher! At night and in the morning, if you desire so, you can participate in feeding your dog team.
Daily chores in the refuge are to share between all the participants: get wood, set a fire, get water in the lake...
Daily distances vary from 30km to 50km, with frequent stops to interpret animals tracks, take pictures or take a rest. Your guide will initiate you to survival in the forest and at each lunch, you will set a fire in the snow with spruce branches and birch bark to cook your grilled meat (BBQ)
Beginning of the morning is the preparation of the raid. You meet your guide and he present you the dogs and distribute the harnesses. Short travel to the entrance of Papineau Labelle fauna reserve. At the end of the morning, departure from the Pie IX welcome site towards the first refuge. We take and old lumberjack road to get to the Leclerc refuge. This day of initiation of 20km will give you confidence and you will feel more comfortable with your sled for the next days
From Leclerc to FascinantWe will go north to go around Lake Montjoie, which has a 40km circumference. After lunch (BBQ), we will go over some small streams towards Lake Pronovost to get to the Fascinant refuge.
This morning, we will travel to this magnificent Le Savita log cabin. We will take an old railroad to get to Lake Ernest, going around Lake Armstrong. Snack in the woods, and we will pass in front a a real trapper log cabin of more than 100 years old! Downhill to cross over Petit Lac du Sourd and get to our nice refuge. Time to install the dogs and a well deserved rest, in front of the fireplace.
From Savita to Bauchet cottage.Departure early this morning, on the bay of this huge lake, to follow the trail of the moose. Wild trail to Lake Binet where we will have lunch... We will cross over another part of Lake du Sourd, north side, until the Bauchet refuge, magnificent log cabin.
A great day!Through the spruces, the hilly trail will bring us to the dam. We will lunch on a small island on Lake Joinvile, in the middle of nowhere, then we will go around Mount Body to get back to our starting point.
In the undergrowth of the trails, or on frozen lakes, in the middle of nowhere, you will have lived the life of the trappers if the old days and this memory will remain, as the time goes by, like a feeling of liberty. Those shining landscapes and the complicity with your dogs, those travelers of the cold, will certainly convince you that Nature and our Mother Earth merit to be protected!
