Daily tasks

The daily tasks arriving at the shelters are also to be shared among all: to enter the woods, to light the fire, to fetch water from the lake…

The daily stages ranging from 35 to 50 km per day will be punctuated by stops to interpret animal tracks, take pictures or rest. Your guide will introduce you to survival in the forest and, every afternoon, you will light a fire in the snow with branches of spruce and bark of birch to cook your grill (BBQ).

For all the Raids from 2 to 5 days, as an indication: Throughout the stay, you will learn to take care of your dogs. You will put on their harnesses, and put them in the carriage like a real musher! Evening and morning, if you wish, you will participate to feed your pack.

A dog sled ride with us will give you the opportunity to learn about life in the forest, make a fire with what is around you, discover the local flora and fauna and discover the Papineau-Labelle wildlife reserve safely without snowmobiling and in absolute calm.

All dog sled packages with overnight stays in shelters take place in the Papineau-Labelle wildlife reserve, managed by SÉPAQ, with whom we have an exclusive agreement. You will be roaming during your stay, so you will discover a new cottage every night and new trails every day!

Lunch will be cooked on the wood fire that you made yourself with the help of your guide and in the evening you will enjoy a good home-cooked meal by Katia.

The Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve covers an area of 1628 km2. It contains no less than 746 lakes and 27 rivers and streams. There is abundant terrestrial wildlife such as white-tailed deer, moose, bear, wolf, beaver, fox and ruffed grouse, and many other species of mammals, birds and a wide variety of aquatic fauna. Composed of a mixed forest, we find maple, yellow birch, and several other species of hardwoods and conifers. It is in this natural universe that our 5-day raid takes place, far from civilization and from any home!

Raid 5 days…

Day1

Early morning is spent preparing for the raid.
You meet your guide who introduces the dogs and assigns the teams. Small transfer of 15 minutes to the entrance of the Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve. Departure from the Pie IX reception at the end of the morning to the first refuge. We will take today an old lumberjack way to get to the Leclerc refuge.

This initiative day of about 20 km will allow you to gain confidence and feel more comfortable with your sled the next few days.

Day 2

From Leclerc to Fascinating
We will go up north to round Lake Monjoie which has a circumference of 40 km. After lunchtime barbecue, we will cross small streams towards Lake Pronovost to go to the refuge of Fascinant.

Day 3

This morning, we head for the beautiful log cabin Le Savita.
We take an old railway line to Lake Ernest, passing through Armstrong Lake. Snack in the woods, then we will pass an authentic log trapper cottage over 100 years! Descent on the small lake of the Sourd to cross and join our beautiful refuge. The time to install the dogs and a well deserved rest awaits us, in front of the crackling fireplace.

Day 4

From Savita to Bauchet cottage.
Leave early this morning on the bay of the great lake, then follow the moose trail (also called elk). Wild trail to Lake Binet where we will eat … We will then cross an arm of the Sourd lake, further north, to the refuge of Bauchet, beautiful log cabin.

Day 5

A great day!
Through the spruce trees, the hilly trail will lead us to the Dam. We will eat on a small island on Lake Joinville, in the middle of nowhere, then we will follow the Body Mountain to join our starting point.

In the trails in the woods or frozen lakes in the middle of nowhere, you will have lived the life of the trapper of yesteryear. This memory will remain over time, engraved in your memory, as a feeling of freedom. These dazzling landscapes and the complicity with your dogs, our cold travelers, will undoubtedly have convinced you that our Nature and our Earth deserve to be protected!
